ART AND DESIGN MA Program

 

Academic Unit: Department of Arts

Program Objectives: The aim of this interdisciplinary program is to train future artists, designers, curators, managers and academicians to;

  • Pass on and implement the knowledge and skills of the past to the present,
  • Have an artistic perspective to see art in daily life,
  • Use and develop new technologies,
  • Choose appropriate research methods and to do research by analyzing, synthesizing and interpreting,
  • Plan the process of creating an artistic work,
  • Implement planning , drawing , modelling and all other essential skills when producing an artistic work,
  • Know the possibilities of the materials used and the methods used in adapting materials to the intended function, the ways in which the parts come together side by side and the effects of the products on those who will use it.

Portfolio

Applicants should prepare a portfolio which includes:

  1. CV
  2. A thesis Proposal (Include your aim in selecting the topic, sources you would use and publication possibilities of your thesis, etc.)
  3. National and International Published Articles
  4. Documents and invitations about organized exhibitions, concerts, workshops
  5. Visuals about works completed (including name, date, technique, size tag)
  6. News about the events organized

 

Who can apply?

In-Field Quotas

Bachelor degree holders of Art and Design programs, Teaching Visual Art, Plastic Art programs should apply to in-field applicant quotas.

Out-of-Field Quotas

Bachelor degree holders of other programs can apply to out-field quotas. Out-of-field applicants are expected to have built interest in art and design and relate their previous academic studies to Art and Design Program. Preparatory Class is required for out-of-field students.

Graduation Requirements:

In order to graduate from the program, students are required;

  • to take at least 7 courses (21 local credits/ 120 ECTS), two of which are required by the department
  • to pass the “Seminar” and “Research Methods and Scientific Ethics” courses,
  • to pass all courses with at least CB grade and have at least 2.50/4.0 GPA,
  • to comply with the publication requirement,
  • to register to “Lecture on Specialized Field” and “MA Thesis” courses in order to write a thesis, after completing the required number of credits,
  • to pass the MA thesis defense successfully.

 

Publication Requirement:

MA students are required to meet at least one of the following requirements which has to be related to their thesis and done in cooperation with their thesis supervisor(s):

  1. An oral/ poster presentation at a national/ international refereed academic congress
  2. An academic article published or accepted for publication at a national/ international refereed academic journal
